The title, (which I cannot claim to be my own!) refers to the implementation of ‘activity based learning’ (ABL) in Tamil Nadu across the primary school curriculum. Children are now taught English as a subject from their first year in school through a series of self access cards. British Council has been working in partnership with unicef to enhance the skills of upper primary teachers to support children through the transition from ABL classes to more traditional classrooms and encourage the use of communicative activities.
